Frank Cavaz has been working in glass since 1986. He was first was drawn to glass as a sculptural material and it has continued to challenge and fascinate him. Frank received his AOCA from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Canada. He continued on to earn his M.FA from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. He now works out of his own studio in Northern California established in 1996. Frank has been an Artist in Residence at Harbor Front Craft Studios, Toronto, Ontario; and the Appalachian Center for Crafts, Smithville, Tennessee. His work has been included in many exhibitions throughout the United States including, the White House Christmas Holiday Invitational; The Cutting Edge Glass Art From Across America juried exhibition, Armory At Center, West Palm Beach, Florida; Art Trail Preview Exhibition, Sonoma County Museum, California; Santa Rosa Museum, California; Dallas Museum of Art, Texas; and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. Frank Cavaz creates elegant handblown glass forms accented by sculptural pieces. In his series, Botanical, Frank draws inspiration from nature. He combines a traditional vase form with sculptural elements resembling lichens growing on trees or sea anemones attached to coral. He creates each piece by hand with out the use of molds using ancient glassblowing techniques.
