David Jensen and John Hurd create one of a kind handblown glass lamps in their studio in Washington. They began working together while assisting renowned glass artist Joe Clearman. During this time they learned Joe¡¯s techniques and complex formulas for making unique colored glass lamps. After eight years, Joe Clearman retired and David and John took over the studio. They continue some of the traditions of the studio along with their own technical and stylistic additions. David originally was assisting prominent Northwest potters and ceramicists. He became drawn to the liquid nature of glass as a medium to create beautiful functional objects. ¡°I think that the lamps are a perfectly functional item and yet I sometimes think that the sole purpose of the illumination is to animate the sculpture that we create with the glass.¡± John finds the combination of the art of blowing glass and engineering the light fixture to be challenging and rewarding. ¡°We want people to look at our lamps and wonder how they are held together.¡± All lamp fixtures are hand constructed out of solid brass for each lamp. They also include a custom designed switch which allows for you to choose a light combination of the base and three bulbs in the shade.
