Joan Irving is an internationally renowned artist for her exceptionally creative glass tables, chairs, sculptures, screens, and installations. In 1996 she received three prestigious commissions for installations at the new San Diego International Airport, including one for the facade of the main entrance. Joan received her Bachelors degree in Art and Art Education Credentials from California State University, Chico. She works independently in her studio, Irving Glass Design, which she founded in 1978. Her work can be found in major galleries throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. She also has work in the permanent collection of the Corning Museum of Glass. Joan Irving is known for her inventive use of color and design. She creates one of a kind tables and chairs displaying colorful, abstract, geometric designs. Some of the pieces are hand forged with metal elements. Joan uses a process called reverse painting in which glass enamel is painted to the underside of the piece and then sealed by another layer of clear glass. Joan also produces vibrant screens and sculptures which she engraves using high pressured fine grain silica.
