James Nadal has been producing functional and unique glass for the last thirty years. After receiving his master's degree in painting from the University of Iowa in 1969, he became interested in glass and in 1971 attended the University of Illinois at Normal to study with Joel Myers. At the invitation of Tom Kekic, Nadal moved to Western New York to fabricate the furnaces for the first glass shop at the School for American Craftsmen at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester. He also rebuilt the studios at the Naples Mill School and Artpark in Lewiston, New York. He settled in Canandaigua, where he has maintained a glass shop since 1973. Nadal has taught and demonstrated throughout the east. He has given lectures, demonstrations, and workshops for the University of Connecticut; the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia; the Peabody School of Art in Nashville, Tennessee; the Leverett Art Center in Leverett, Massachusetts; the Glass Art Convention in Corning, NY; the New York Coliseum in NYC; Keystone College; the National Conference of Ceramic Artists in Baton Rouge, LA; the New York State Craftsmen in Ithaca, NY; and Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. Nadal's work is represented in many public and private collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass, The Renwick Gallery, The Lanan Foundation, and the private collection of King Juan Carlos of Spain. Nadal's pieces can be seen in over two hundred galleries, stores, and museum shops around the United States and Canada
